Ademola Lookman could end his trophy drought in club football as Atalanta prepares to tackle Juventus in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday, May 15.

The 26-year-old winger, who started his career over a decade ago with Charlton in England, is expected to be named in Gian Piero Gasperini’s side as they tackle the Old Lady for the Italian Cup.

According to Complete Sports, the Coppa Italia final will be the first final Lookman will be participating in at club level since making his professional debut as an 18-year-old back in England.

Lookman has enjoyed a successful campaign for Atalanta this season, netting 12 goals and creating eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Italian club.

The Nigerian also has a decent record in the Coppa Italia, scoring once and assisting one in just two appearances, and will hope to be the difference-maker in the final against Juventus.

Atalanta desperate to win Italian Cup

Meanwhile, Atalanta is desperate to end their hard luck in the Coppa Italia by winning the competition for the first time in 61 years as they prepare to tackle Juventus in the final, Daily Post reports.

Gasperini’s side have won the tournament only once in the past, during the 1962/63 season, and have been runners-up on four different occasions including losing to Juventus in the 2020/21 season.

Atalanta, who are also through to the Europa League final this season, will hope to exert revenge on the Old Lady and win the Coppa Italia for the second time in the club’s history.

Lookman tipped to win CAF’s POTY award

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lookman has been outstanding for Atalanta this season, and there are already suggestions for the Super Eagles winger to be named the 2024 CAF Player of the Year.

The 26-year-old winger led the Italians to the Europa League final, scoring and assisting as they defeated Olympique Marseille 3-0 to win 4-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

Lookman has emerged as a strong candidate to replace compatriot Victor Osimhen as Africa’s best player following his excellent campaign this season.
