  • Veteran goalkeeper David de Gea is still a free agent after leaving Manchester United
  • The Spaniard is yet to find a club and is reportedly considering calling his career quits
  • Fans are now pointing fingers at Manchester United for apparently 'ruining the legend'

Football fans are pointing an accusing finger at Manchester United after disheartening reports emerged of David de Gea considering his retirement from football.

The 32-year-old is still a free agent, more than two months after his contract at the Red Devils ran out and he is believed to have rejected several offers.

De Gea was reportedly willing to stay at Old Trafford if a proper deal was placed on the table but manager, Erik ten Hag had his reservations about the Spaniard.

Eventually, the two parties went their separate ways, with United replacing the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper with Cameroon international, Andre Onana.

According to The Guardian, the reason De Gea is still a free agent is because he did not jump at the opportunity to transfer to Saudi Arabia when offers came.

The keeper, who is training alone to keep his fitness levels up, is said to not be motivated by money and would rather move to a top club where he will be the no. 1 between the sticks.

The publication further states that De Gea wants to move to a club that will challenge for silverware. It comes as a surprise to many that the Premier League winner is yet to find a club so deep into the new campaign.

Fans slam United amid de Gea reports

For sections of fans on social media, they accused United of putting the Spanish veteran in his current predicament. Here are some of their reactions:

@Tope_Joel2 said:

"Don’t let Manchester United get into your head you can still play football."

@mojojojo_cfc added:

"Manchester United didn't deserve legend like him."

@inc051 said:

"Man u did De Gea dirty after years of saving their lives."

@privatefigure_ said:

"Look what United did to their legend when he wasn't even the problem."

Before his Manchester United exit, De Gea was offered a new deal but the terms were considerably lower than his previous £375,000-per-week.

As per Transfermarkt, the veteran made 545 appearances for the Red Devils in his 12 years at the club. In that time, he won eight major trophies.

Ten Hag confirms Sancho's absence vs. Burnley

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on ten Hag’s disheartening update on Jadon Sancho as the gaffer confirmed the winger would miss the clash against Burnley.

United will return to Premier League action tomorrow evening with their trip to Turf Moor to face a newly-promoted team, who are without a win this season.

Sancho has been banished from first-team training. He deleted a social media post slamming ten Hag but he is now him out of the EPL game against Burnley.
