  • A Manchester United midfielder has named three 'greatest' players of his generation
  • The United midfielder's list did not include some notable stars often labelled 'GOATs'
  • The Red Devils star is regarded as a modern great after mastering his role on the pitch

Manchester United midfielder, Casemiro, has decided not to include French legend, Zinedine Zidane and fellow Brazilian, Ronaldo Nazario on his list of the greatest players of his generation.

Despite having the pleasure of witnessing both superstars in the twilight of their respective careers and acknowledging their combined three World Cup titles, Casemiro chose to overlook them.

In his selection of the 'greatest' players from his generation, the former Real Madrid anchorman favoured his countryman, Neymar Junior, alongside the iconic Lionel Messi and his long-standing rival. Cristiano Ronaldo, who also happened to be Casemiro's teammate at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Being recognised as a modern-day great himself, thanks to his mastery of the crucial holding role in both domestic and international teams, the United star's choices have resonated deeply within the footballing world.

"I had the pleasure of seeing Messi, Cristiano, and Neymar, who are the three greatest of my generation," he told the Brazilian publication, Placar, as quoted by MEN.
"I saw Ronaldo [Nazario], I saw [Zidane], but without a doubt, these three are the best of my time."

The 31-year-old midfielder boasts an impressive record as a five-time Champions League winner during his remarkable stint with Real Madrid.

Additionally, Casemiro played a crucial role in Manchester United's triumph last season, putting an end to their six-year wait for major silverware by lifting the Carabao Cup.

He would hope to continue on the same tangent next season when the Red Devils kickstart their Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.

Casemiro praises Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo

Sports Brief also reported on Casemiro certainly knowing first-hand the brilliance of Ronaldo and Messi on the football pitch.

He played with the Portuguese at Real Madrid and waged countless El Clasico battles against the Argentine versus Barcelona.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Casemiro named Ronaldo, Messi, and Neymar among the three greatest footballers of his generation.
