Tennis legend, Rafael Nadal, has shared his thoughts on the unending debate on who the greatest footballer of all time is between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, he also safeguarded himself from backlash with a stylish reply.

Messi made his debut for Inter Miami in MLS on July 21 and scored a match-winning last-minute free kick, and has been dominating the headlines since.

The Argentine also had an offer from the Middle East to rekindle the rivalry with Ronaldo that they enjoyed for nine years in La Liga, but turned it down for an offer from the US team.

Ronaldo departed Europe in January and joined Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia after his Manchester United contract was terminated. The Guardian reported that he closed the door on his time in Europe in his recent post-match thoughts.

Nadal responds to GOAT question

With the debate about which of these two veterans is superior still raging, Nadal when quizzed by some fans on who he believes the GOAT of football is.

According to a video recirculated on Twitter by AlbicelesteTalk, the 22-time Grand Slam winner made a confession but buttressed his reply with logic.

“Messi is better, but I’m a Madrid fan,” he said.

Winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar switched many fans to the former Barcelona captain, with Ronaldo's Portugal going out in the quarter-final of the same tournament.

However, the football GOAT argument remains one which may never be resolved.

LeBron acknowledges Messi's greatness

Sports Brief also reported on LeBron James acknowledging Messi's greatness after watching the Argentine's debut with Inter Miami against Cruz Azul live at the DVR PNK Stadium.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend was spotted at the stadium alongside other American sports stars and celebrities, including Serena Williams, Tom Brady, and Kim Kardashian.
