“Then again, I’ve played in a lot of stadiums. But I think Liverpool, Anfield is quite the atmosphere that is quite amazing," he told Goal Africa, as quoted by 3Xtra.tv.

Anfield is noted for being one of the best places to visit on European nights, especially in the UEFA Champions League.

Meanwhile, Essien and his Chelsea team enjoyed their rivalry with the Reds especially during the era of Jose Mourinho as manager of the London club.

Essien retired from playing in 2020 and has since been working on his career as a manager. The former AC Milan midfielder is part of the technical team of Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland.

He won several titles with Chelsea including the 2012 UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea retain Baba Rahman

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Baba Rahman's Chelsea future has been handed a huge boost after the Ghanaian defender was retained by the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Black Stars left-back has a year left on his current deal with the Blues and will be expected to join the London club this summer for pre-season.

Rahman spent the just ended campaign on loan at Reading FC, his fifth spell away from the club since joining from Augsburg in 2015.

Laryea meets Ayew brothers

Former Ghana winger, Laryea Kingston met with the Ayew brothers ahead of the Black Stars' trip to Madagascar on Friday, for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The four-time African champions travel to Antananarivo with the objective of sealing qualification to the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.

Kingston, who starred for the Black Stars at the 2008 edition in Ghana, charged Andre and Jordan Ayew to make sure the job is well-executed on Sunday.
