  • Baba Rahman will stay at Chelsea next season

  • Rahman joined Chelsea from Augsburg in 2015

Baba Rahman's Chelsea future has been handed a huge boost after the Ghanaian defender was retained by the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Black Stars left-back has a year left on his current deal with the Blues and will be expected to join the London club this summer for pre-season.

Rahman spent the just ended campaign on loan at Reading FC, his fifth spell away from the club since joining from Augsburg in 2015.

"The list of players retained by Chelsea for the 2023/24 season has been published by the Premier League, with Tiemoue Bakayoko’s departure from the club now confirmed," wrote the club on their official website.

In a list published by the Premier League, the former Asante Kotoko player was part of the players Chelsea will work with next season.

The 28-year-old now has the chance to convince new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who will be looking at building a competitive team for the 2023/24 season.

Chelsea endured a tough 2022/23 campaign, losing out on European places after finishing the season in 12th place.

Rahman reflects on World Cup experience

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana defender Baba Rahman has shared his experience at the World Cup in Qatar, after making a return to his club Reading FC.

The Black Stars left-back immediately joined his teammates for mid-season training ahead of the resumption of the English Championship.

Rahman played all three games for the Black Stars, as the four-time African champions exited the tournament at the group stage.

Rahman shares moment with son

Black Stars defender Abdul Rahman Baba celebrated Ghana's victory over South Korea with his son at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.

The Reading FC left-back was a second-half substitute, as the Black Stars defeated the Tigers of Asia in a thrilling encounter on Monday.

Rahman replaced injured Gideon Mensah late into the game, stopping the threat of South Korea's attack from the right.
