Argentina midfielder, Paulo Dybala opened the scoring in the 31st minute as the Romans went into the break with the lead, reported EuroNews.

However, Sevilla responded ten minutes after the break after a cross from Jesus Navas was turned into the net by Roma player Gianluca Mancini.

The game had to be settled from the spot, and the Moroccan World Cup star stole the show with saves to deny Mancini and Roger Ibanez.

”I really had confidence in my players scoring their penalties, when you feel that - You sort of set yourself free knowing you may stop one," Bounou said after the game, as quoted by Football Daily.

Sevilla have now won the Europa League seven times, becoming the first team to beat a Jose Mourinho-led team in the final of a European competition.

Bounou excels as Sevilla beat Roma

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Moroccan goalkeeper, Yassine Bono Bounou, was the difference as Sevilla beat AS Roma on penalties to win the 2022/23 Europa League.

Bono saved two penalties as the Spanish outfit handed Jose Mourinho his first defeat in a European competition final.

After a pulsating 120 minutes of football, which ended in a 1-1 draw, the game had to be settled from the spot.

Montiel scores winning penalty

Gonzalo Montiel is a man for the big occasion, and he proved that yet again by scoring Sevilla’s decisive penalty to clinch their seventh Europa League title.

It was a tense game between the two historic sides, and nothing could separate them after about 140 minutes of football, and it was eventually decided on penalties.

The Spanish side's European pedigree proved too strong for Jose Mourinho’s perfect record, as one streak bowed for the other, and Sevilla extended their record Europa League wins.
