  • Javier Mascherano has claimed Paris Saint-Germain will regret their ill-treatment of Lionel Messi
  • PSG fans have called for the 35-year-old to leave the Ligue 1 champions at the end of the season
  • Messi’s current deal with PSG runs out at the end of this term after joining the Parisians in 2021

Lionel Messi’s fairytale move to Paris Saint-Germain has gone sour in recent weeks and the Argentine superstar is reportedly set to leave the Ligue 1 champions at the end of the season.

Fans of PSG have turned against the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, demanding his departure in a protest outside the club's headquarters after the Parisians failed again in their quest for the Champions League title.

According to Sportskeeda, Javier Mascherano has now claimed PSG does not value Messi and warned the Ligue 1 club that they would regret the way they treated the Argentine superstar.

“I think that 10 years ago, no Paris fan imagined that they could possibly have the best player in history on their team And instead of enjoying it, they spent these two years criticising it. In 10 years, they will regret it. Any team in the world would give anything to have him for five minutes. Neither party deserved this ending.”

Messi was recently suspended by the Parisians after the 35-year-old reportedly travelled to Saudi Arabia without the permission of his managers.

PSG’s treatment of Messi questioned

Meanwhile, former Argentine defender, Pablo Sorin has described the treatment currently being meted out by PSG on Messi as 'unfair and absurd', Goal reports.

He said it hurt to see what was happening at the French giants after some of fans hurled insults at the veteran and demanded he leave at the end of the season.

Messi has scored 15 goals and created 15 assists for the Parisians this season but the Argentine has failed to win the love of the fans in two years at the club.

Messi considering terminating PSG contract

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Messi’s deteriorating relationship with PSG hitting a new low after his punishment for making an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia.

He was reportedly suspended and fined two weeks’ wages for his defiance, which seems to have worsened friction between the veteran and the club's hierarchy.

Messi, who was also a target of recent protests by the club's fans, is reportedly considering an option of terminating his contract at PSG within the next 10 days.
