  • Jordi Alba has opened up about Lionel Messi's return to Barcelona.
  • Messi is a free agent at the end of the season when his current PSG deal runs out
  • Inter Miami and Al Hilal are also interested in signing the 35-year-old superstar

Lionel Messi has received a strong message from Barcelona left-back, Jordi Alba, regarding a potential return to the Camp Nou at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Barcelona are one of the favourites to sign Messi should he decide to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season when his contract with the Parisians expires.

The 35-year-old penned a two-year deal when he joined the Parisians from Barcelona in 2021 but his time in Paris has failed to meet the expectations, after back-to-back failures in the UEFA Champions League.

“It is Leo’s decision. Honestly, we haven’t talked about this topic, but it’s clear that in the end, seeing Messi with another shirt other than Barca’s is always weird,” he said.
“In the end, if he wants to and the club wants to, it’s perfect for me. He has been the player with whom I have understood the best on the pitch.”

Messi's time at Barcelona

As a 13-year-old, Messi moved to Barcelona from his hometown of Rosario in Argentina, after scouts were astounded by the young prodigy.

He made an immediate impact in 2004 and never looked back, earning his first Ballon d'Or award at only 22 years old.

However, after 778 games, 672 goals, and 17 years in the first team at Camp Nou, Barcelona's bleak financial situation saw the Argentine's time come to an emotional end.

Messi then joined PSG on a free transfer in June of 2021.

Lewandowski relishes possible Messi partnership

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Messi’s rumoured return to Barcelona getting forward, Robert Lewandowski excited about the prospect of playing alongside the veteran Argentine superstar.

The Catalan giants are one of the favourites to sign the Argentine on, should he decide to leave PSG at the end of the season when his contract with the Parisians expires.

Lewandowski, who is Barcelona’s top scorer this season, has now stated that playing alongside Messi at Camp Nou would be incredible and he is hopeful the move happens.
