Many South Africans are not missing the opportunity to give Benni McCarthy his flowers while he can still smell them.
The icing on the cake, that has been his magnificent contribution to the game as a player and now as a coach, was him being appointed as the forwards coach of Manchester United by Erik ten Hag last August.
In February, Sports Brief reported on how Capetonian hip-hop superstars, YoungstaCPT and Shaney Jay released the single 'Benni McCarthy' to honour the Bafana Bafana legend's rise to the top.

This included the suburbs of Athlone, Ocean View, Grassy Park as well as Hanover Park, where McCarthy grew up.
The video is interspersed with highlights of his time at Ajax Amsterdam, Celta Vigo, Blackburn Rovers, and Orlando Pirates, where he concluded his playing career.
The song also references the late Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes, who was gunned down in Durban in February. The musician was a huge Manchester United fan and did not miss the opportunity to celebrate McCarthy joining his beloved club.
The 45-year-old Bafana legend was in turn saddened by the murder and paid tribute to AKA, with the Man United also honouring him in a matchday programme.
