Manchester United has given many South Africans something to smile about in the wake of tragedy.

The Red Devils included a tribute to the rapper known as Kiernan Forbes in the 'In Memoriam' section of the match programme ahead of the FA Cup Last 16 3-1 win against West Ham on Wednesday. Forwards coach Benni McCarthy, a friend of AKA's, shared a picture of the section dedicated to him on his Instagram page.

The club said in a statement:

“We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Kiernan Forbes, otherwise known as AKA — a rapper and United supporter from South Africa. He was a huge red greatly admired by so many. Our thoughts are with his family and many loved ones.”

Video shows AKA playing football

A video is currently going viral on Facebook, showing another side to the late great hip-hop star, AKA.

Lindelani Khathi compiled clips of the artist - whose real name is Kiernan Forbes - during football games he played in during his lifetime. These include get-togethers, media events, and charity initiatives.

Those who watched the video were moved by the footage.

McCarthy mourns AKA after murder

As the continent comes to grips with the slaying of one of its finest ever hip-hop artists AKA, another great export to the world paid tribute to him.

Manchester United first-team coach, Benni McCarthy expressed sadness at the news, with the two bonding over football and AKA's support for the Red Devils. The musician was shot dead in Durban, with his friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane dying in the shocking attack that gripped the headlines.

'Hy lekker, lekker vis and chips!' is a line from the late, great AKA's smash hit Fela In Versace, inspired by McCarthy's collaboration with TKZee, Shibobo.

Sports Brief previously reported on the track which took the world by storm in 1998 ahead of the FIFA World Cup in France. Forbes was a staunch United supporter and never missed the opportunity to show his love for the world's biggest sports team.
