  • It was very clear from the start that Mamelodi Sundowns was going to win their 13th DStv Premiership title
  • What everyone was more interested in was how early the Brazilians would seal their sixth consecutive win
  • They have now broken two unique records in the process of dominating South African football

No team had ever won the DStv Premiership in April before.

No team had also sealed the title with seven matches to go in a league campaign.

Mamelodi Sundowns now hold these records following their sixth consecutive Premier Soccer League triumph and record-extending 13th. The Brazilians did not have to kick a ball to do so, as the last team with a mathematical chance to catch them SuperSport United drew 1-1 with Chippa United on Saturday night.

With everything done and dusted, the team can now fully focus on the Nedbank Cup as well as the CAF Champions League. Also, boasting the most points in a 30-match season (70 in the 2015/16 campaign), Sundowns is perfectly positioned to blow past this milestone having played just 23 games, accruing 59 points in that time.

Xoki misses an absolute sitter

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on a staggering occurrence in a match between Richards Bay FC and Orlando Pirates.

Bucs defender Tapelo Xoki will want to forget a moment of madness during the encounter.

He was guilty of what could be the biggest miss of 2023 early in the match at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Durban. It did not prove to be costly, though, as the Buccaneers would emerge from the match with all three points.

With the goal at his mercy after the Rich Boyz' goalkeeper Malcolm Jacobs parried a shot onto his path, Xoki skied his shot from less than two metres away from goal.

Man caught selling fake tickets

Meanwhile, was drama at the stadium before kick-off.

Sports Brief reported that a fake ticket seller was apprehended by security while in the act of allegedly distributing his counterfeit wares.

Journalist Robin-Duke Madlala was on the scene as the individual was apprehended by security guards at the venue. He snapped several pictures of him being escorted off the premises.
