  • Chelsea's disastrous form took another turn last week when they lost at home to Southampton
  • It appeared like it would be Graham Potter's last game in charge but the owners have backed him
  • His recent comment on possible reason for the poor form have sparked anger among some fans

Graham Potter needs to start getting results soon enough for Chelsea, not because of the safety of his job but because the backlash from fans after his recent comment did not sit down well with many of them.

Thomas Tuchel endeared himself to the Blues faithful with the trophies won, the mentality he brought to the team, his leadership during the sanction and change of ownership, and his charisma on the touchline.

Many fans are still emotionally attached to the German and will instantly fight back at anything that appears to speak ill of his achievements at the club, and Potter may have crossed that line.

Potter blames Chelsea's form on pre-season

Speaking during the press conference ahead of the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, as published on Hayters TV, he claimed many senior players complained about the pre-season they had.

''Speaking to a few of the experienced guys, they said it was the worst pre-season they've had. Organisationally, the tour didn't work as well as they'd like. I wasn't there so I can't say,'' he said.

The comment came off as an excuse to the fans after Tuchel himself claimed Chelsea would not be ready for the season after such an exhausting preseason which focused more on visibility than football, as reported by Mirror UK.

Can he just focus on his L and leave Tuchel out of it?

That literally explains TT’s bad form doesn’t explain Potter’s atrocious form

He needs to stop bad mouthing Tuchel, a Champions League winning coach, and focus on getting us some wins.

Over 5 months after he took over, its the pre season of 7-8 mths ago that he is talking about. A preseason that could not be properly planned because Chelsea was under ban and could not even sign players or make good plans for the new season. This is grabbing at straws

People criticising Tuchel to try make Potter look good is too funny. Have to talk about the former manager cos Potter hasn’t done anything to praise. Pathetic man.

He saw that Tuchel banner at Dortmund and he seems to have taken it very personally.

Fans turn on Potter after Southampton defeat

Many Chelsea fans are still adjusting to the reality that the instant success, hiring and firing technique under former owner Roman Abramovich is going extinct at the club.

Boehly handed out a five-year contract to Potter, meaning the new owners want a long-term model. Fans adjusted to this reality but want results to be promising.

As reported by Sports Brief, the fans turned on Graham Potter after the most recent defeat, an embarrassing loss to Southampton at Stamford Bridge in front of the home fans, who booed the team off at half-time and full-time.
