  • Liverpool fans are convinced sacking Jurgen Klopp would be a mistake despite the club’s slump this season
  • The Reds’ 2022/23 campaign hit another low after a 5-2 humbling at the hands of Real Madrid on February 22
  • Since the defeat, reports claim Klopp could be compelled to resign, but Liverpool fans are having none of it

Liverpool fans all said the same thing about Jurgen Klopp after rumours emerged that the club is ready to part ways with the German after seven years.

An extremely torrid season for the Reds was summed up in the Champions League round of 16 first leg defeat to Real Madrid, with the team well on course for a trophy-less season.

They are out of both domestic cups while in the league, with their primary target after 24 matches being European football after falling a massive 19 points behind leaders, Arsenal.

Their 2-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday seemed to have been a slight glimmer of hope amid an otherwise dull season, but Real Madrid handed the Anfield outfit another brutal reality check.

Klopp’s rumoured exit

On Wednesday, February 23, SportBible reported that Liverpool's bosses have held discussions about Klopp’s future at Anfield, with the German’s exit now a real possibility.

The report claims the Reds' hierarchy feels there is a need for 'freshening up' and believe 'a lot of players looking like they’ve lost their appetite'.

As far as a replacement, rumour has it that Bayern Munich boss, Julian Nagelsmann is seen as an ideal candidate.

'It is not Klopp’s fault'

However, no sooner had the reports surfaced than fans took to social media to boldly protest against the manager's possible exit.

A majority of fans felt that for the most part, Liverpool’s poor season so far was not Klopp's fault, while some blamed some results on bad luck, injuries, and individual mistakes.

@MrCruiseSA:

“It’s sad how a coach becomes the sacrificial lamb when the team is going through hard time. The same Klopp that won Champions league and epl"

@sharifinusahdao added:

“I don't like them but I think sacking Klopp will be a huge mistake from Liverpool. Look at where u used to be before he came. He moved u from doubters to believers. Your midfield is too weak. Fix it n let Klopp be. The man has reached the limit with what u have given him.”

@StuHughes1982 said:

“Now I hate Liverpool and don't like klopp much but I respect what a manager he is. This is absolutely pathetic if its true.”

Chelsea fan, @Maxwhit72556954 added:

"You sack him we Chelsea fans will welcome him gladly. And that's gonna be a huge loss to Liverpool. We did the same mistake to our beloved honourable Tuchel and now look what Graham Potter is showing us like relagation team. We will kick him as soon as possible."

Klopp took charge of Liverpool in 2015 and has since guided the Reds to three Champions League finals, emerging victorious in the 2019 edition.

The German also etched his name in the club's history books after winning a first league title in 30 years in 2020.

Klopp snaps at journalist

Sports Brief also reported on an incident that saw Klopp snap at a journalist in the wake of defeat to Real Madrid.

He did not seem to appreciate a question posed to him about Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric’s contract situation.

Klopp then laid into the reporter, stating they were 'obviously not interested' in his problems and what was not his concern.
