The head coach of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, Ladan Bosso has dropped 10 players from the squad for age discrepancies and faulty documentation.

Bosso is preparing his wards ahead of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations, with a number of players invited to the training camp.

It is believed that 35 players will begin screening on Monday, January 9, while 10 others who are based abroad are expected in the coming week.

Most of the players that have made the list are those from academies, rather than those playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the Nigerian League One (NLO).

Asked why players of the NPFL failed to dominate the team, a member of the squad’s backroom staff disclosed to Own Goal that most of the elite league's players were found to be 'above age'.

Despite their impressive performances, it is believed, most of these players were screened out as the idea remains to build a team for the future.

Goalkeeper Nathaniel Nwosu meanwhile - who is also number-one choice for the Olympic Eagles - headlines the list alongside midfielder Daniel Daga and forward Promise Bernard.

Vanguard reports other members of the squad as goalkeeper Chijioke Anigboso, defenders Benjamin Frederick, Nathaniel Tambe and Hassan Shaibu, midfielders Ibrahim Yahaya and Muhammad Aminu, and forwards Adams Olalekan and Ayuba Francis.

Age fraud rocks Cameroon football

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that age fraud continues to rock Cameroon football, as 11 more under-17 team members have failed tests ordered by FECAFOOT president, Samuel Eto’o.

This brings the total number of players involved in the controversy to 32, as the country prepares for the UNIFACC tournament - contested by the U17 sides of the Central African Football Federations' Union countries.

It is believed that Eto’o ordered all players selected to play for the country’s youth teams to undergo MRI tests, to determine if their ages are as claimed.
