Senegal reaches round of 16

The match ended in a 2-1 win for the reigning African champions, who subsequently booked a spot in the tournament's knockout round.

Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring for the Teranga Lions from the penalty spot moments before the break, before Moises Caicedo restored parity for Ecuador in the second half.

However, a moment of magic from Chelsea's Kalidou Koulibaly shortly after was enough to send the West African country to the last 16.

Cisse dedicates win to Mane

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Senegal boss Aliou Cisse has dedicate the win over Ecuador to Sadio Mane.

Mane was not part of the Lions of Teranga squad, which booked a last-16 spot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Bayern Munich star was ruled out of the 2022 edition of the Mundial due to an injury he picked up while playing for the Bundesliga side.
