Senegal boss Aliou Cisse has dedicated his team's memorable World Cup win over Ecuador to Sadio Mane.

The Lions of Teranga were in great form during their last Group A fixture as they stunned Ecuador 2-1 on Tuesday evening, November 29.

Goals from Ismaila Sarr and Kalidou Koulibaly were enough to earn the African champions a vital win to book a spot in the last 16.

The team had to do this without their talisman in the shape of Mane, who was ruled out of the tournament with an injury.

The 30-year-old picked up the injury to his right fibula in one of Bayern Munich's final games just days before the World Cup.

It was initially hoped that the former Liverpool star would feature in the global football showpiece, only for further examinations of his injury to see him ruled out of the competition.

Cisse has now dedicated Senegal's vital win over Ecuador to Mane, who he described as an 'extraordinary man.'

"I would like to dedicate this victory to a man who does extraordinary things for the country, who is unfortunately not here today. This man's name is Sadio Mané," Cisse was quoted saying in a tweet.

Senegal to face England

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Senegal have discovered their 2022 World Cup opponents in the last of 16 of the tournament.

The west African nation stunned Ecuador 2-1 to sail through, with Kalidou Koulibaly emerging as the match hero.

Senegal will now be coming up against England in the round of 16 of the global football showpiece in a crunch clash set to be played on Sunday, December 4, at the Al Bayt Stadium.
