Bernardo Silva has said that Cristiano Ronaldo still has the backing of his teammates, saying he can be a potent weapon for Portugal at the FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo, 37, has endured a difficult time with Manchester United this season but will lead his national team at the quadrennial competition.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been criticised by a section of football fans after blasting current manager Erik ten Hag following his interview with Piers Morgan.

"The reality is when you’ve got a player like Cristiano, it’s natural that sometimes you play for him because he can win you the game in the final minutes," said Silva.

The 28-year-old added that while Brazil and Argentina depend on Neymar and Lionel Messi respectively, Portugal will always count on Ronaldo as their biggest inspiration at the World Cup.

"The same goes for other countries. It’s natural, for example, that France always look to (Kylian) Mbappe because he can decide a match at any time. Brazil have Neymar, and with Argentina, it’s Lionel Messi."

Ronaldo in minor altercation with Cancelo

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be an unpopular figure in Portugal right now following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

In a video posted on social media, spotted by Sports Brief, the Portugal captain was seemingly avoided by Manchester City's defender Joao Cancelo.

In a separate series of photos posted by Mirror, Ronaldo is seen in the gym working alongside Diogo Dalot. Dalot appears extremely uncomfortable with Ronaldo's presence

Bruno Fernandes' cold reaction

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo's bombshell interview appears to have riled up many people associated with Manchester United since it dropped on Sunday, 13th November.

Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo will represent Portugal at the World Cup, and Fernandes appeared to be livid after meeting with his national team captain.

Ronaldo's interview with popular and controversial media personality Piers Morgan dropped on Sunday, and the details left many Man United fans angry, especially the criticism of Erik ten Hag.

It remains to be seen if Ronaldo's fortunes will change in Qatar when he leads his side to face Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea in Group H.
