Cristiano Ronaldo's career could be coming to an end according to his former Manchester United teammate Patrice Evra.

Evra says he wouldn't be surprised if the legendary striker decides to hang his boots.

Ronaldo's World Cup dream ended agonisingly when Portugal were knocked out of the 2022 tournament by Morocco in the quarter-final.

Given he is 37 years old and approaching the tail end of his illustrious career, a chance to win the World Cup may not come again.

The Real Madrid legend was benched in all of Portugal's knockout games in Qatar, which is perhaps an ominous sign that his best days are behind him.

His explosive interview with controversial journalist Piers Morgan, where he attacked Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag effectively ended his second spell at Old Trafford.

He remains a free agent after Portugal's exit from the tournament, per Eurosport.

Evra on possible Ronaldo retirement

According to Sky Sports via Goal, Evra said that he wouldn't be surprised if his former teammate decided to retire from the game.

The former France international added that the intense criticism the five-time Ballon d'Or has received could force Ronaldo into making that decision.

"I won’t be surprised if he he says ‘I’ll retire’, because now everything Cristiano Ronado does – he’s a bad person, he’s a bad player whatever. I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to retire.”

"To win the World Cup with his country was his dream. Now he doesn’t have that dream."

The Portugal legend reiterated in the interview with Morgan that he is still good enough to play at the top level. Ronaldo is known for his consistent hard work while also taking care of his body.

With the 2022 World Cup ending on Sunday, paving the way for club football and it remains to be seen where he plays next.

Ronaldo training at Madrid

Sports Brief earlier reported on Ronaldo training with Real Madrid after his country's painful exit from the World Cup.

Ronaldo made a surprise appearance at Real’s Valdebebas training complex with one of his luxury cars. His sleek Mercedes-Benz caught the eyes of onlookers.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had reportedly contacted Los Blancos management to request the use of the club’s training facilities in Valdebebas, on certain conditions.
