Tel’s goal-scoring record wasn’t the only record to fall during the game. He also became Bayern’s youngest player to make a debut for the club since they earned a promotion to the Bundesliga in 1965.

If Tel plays against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League next week, he will also become Bayern’s youngest player to make an appearance in the tournament.

Tel’s impressive performance has earned him high praise from coach Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern’s website reported.

"He's a very good dribbler, has great technique and is very good with the ball at his feet,” he said.

He added that even though Tel performed so admirably, he was an investment for the future and that it wasn’t easy for a 17-year-old to become a regular in the first team.

Mané, Musiala, Mathys, Gravenberch and Goretzka score as Bayern Munich beat Viktoria Köln in DFB Pokal

Buoyed by close to 50 000 fans, FC Viktoria Köln were up for a challenge when they took on Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal.

Playing at FC Koln’s stadium, Viktoria Köln started the game brightly and took the fight to Bayern. They even had the ball in the net first, but it was ruled out for offside.

While Bayern had no shots on target in the first 15 minutes, they turned that around in the second 15 minutes as they registered 9 shots on target. The third 15 minutes is where they really turned up the heat as they scored twice. Bayern’s new boys Mathys Tel and Ryan Gravenberch grabbed the goals for the Bavarian giants.
