  • Manchester United set to sign 35 year old former Tottenham man Tom Huddlestone in shock free transfer
  • Huddlestone will however come in as a player/coach for the team
  • He is currently without a club after leaving Hull City at the end of last season following expiry of his contract

Tom Huddlestone is set to be part of the Manchester United team in a shock free transfer, according to reports.

The midfielder 35, left Hull City last season after the end of his contract and is now a free agent.

According to The Telegraph, United are now poised to offer him a stunning new role as a player-coach role with their Under-21s.

A similar role was taken up by Paul McShane in 2021.

Despite his impending signature, Manchester United fans should not be too concerned as it will not mean he replaces Frenkie De Jong, whom the club has been pursuing for more than 5 weeks now.

Huddlestone will likely be primarily tasks with helping the youth ranks using his experience as he is renown for his passing and organizational abilities.

As a player, he made over 580 appearances for various clubs including Derby County, Hull City and Tottenham.

He boasts seven years in the Premier League, six of those coming while playing for Tottenham.

If the deal materializes, Huddlestone will become the second former player to join United’s ranks after Benni McCarthy, who recently took up a role as an attacking coach with Ten Hag’s squad.

Ten Hag recently spoke on McCarthy’s addition, saying:

“He will focus on the positioning and attacking.
“I’m not saying only the strikers, but also the integration from the full-backs and midfielders. Our way of play has to be dynamic.”

Jota signs new deal at Liverpool

Elsewhere, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Diogo Jota is “not a bad package” after the Portuguese star signed a new long-term deal to stay at Anfield.

Jota was barely two years into his initial deal but penned a new contract to stay at Liverpool

It was announced on Tuesday, August 2 that Jota had signed a new and improved deal on the five-year deal he initially signed upon arriving at Anfield.
