  • Jurgen Klopp said his versatility was the reason the club decided to tie him down further

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Diogo Jota is “not a bad package” after the Portuguese star signed a new long-term deal to stay at Anfield.

It was announced on Tuesday, August 2 that Jota had signed a new and improved deal on the five-year deal he initially signed upon arriving at Anfield.

According to Sky Sports, the new deal is set to run until 2027, with Jota following his fellow attacker Mohammed Salah in committing his future to Liverpool.

Speaking on the club website, Jota expressed delight in the new deal, saying:

“Well, [I’m] really proud, I have to say. Obviously since I arrived two years ago I established myself as an important player in this team – that’s what I wanted from the beginning.”

Jurgen Klopp also praised the former Wolverhampton Wanderer attacker as a versatile player who gives his all for the team.

"His qualities are obvious. He scores goals – not a bad quality – he works unbelievably hard for the team, his pressing & counter-pressing are on an unbelievable level, he can play in all of our attacking roles and he has an incredible attitude. Not a bad package."

It is also impressive that Liverpool decided to hand Jota a contract extension at a time when he is nursing a hamstring injury.

For the Reds, Jota has been in superb form, scoring 34 goals in 85 matches across two seasons.

Man United in talks to sigh Huddlestone

Elsewhere, Tom Huddlestone is set to be part of the Manchester United team in a shock free transfer, according to reports.

Despite his impending signature, however, Manchester United fans should not be too concerned as it will not mean he replaces Frenkie De Jong, whom the club has been pursuing for more than 5 weeks now.

Huddlestone will likely be primarily tasks with helping the youth ranks using his experience as he is renown for his passing and organizational abilities.
