  • It took Erling Haaland just 12 minutes to get his first goal in Manchester City colors
  • The Norwegian missed City’s 2-1 win over Club America earlier in the week but was thrown into action on Saturday, July 23, 2022
  • He showed glimpses of his clinical nature by getting the goal via a simple finish as City beat Bayern Munich 1-0

New Manchester City striker Erling Haaland scored on his debut for the club as the Citizens beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in a preseason friendly on Saturday, July 23.

The £51.2m signing from Borussia Dortmund took only 12 minutes to find the net as he slotted home a simple finish from Jack Grealish’s square pass.

Prior to that, Haaland was not involved in the game too much but showed signs that he was quite clinical in front of goal.

The game, which took place at the Lambeau Field - home of top NFL team the Green Bay Packers, was shrouded with incident as it briefly had to be suspended due to a lightning storm and both sets of players exited the pitch.

Also, kick-off was initially delayed because of weather concerns, and officials eventually decided to have the game run for 80 minutes.

Guardiola on Haaland

City boss Pep Guardiola had initially hinted that Haaland missed City’s last friendly because he had "niggles", but said the striker was working towards regaining full fitness.

"We'll see how he reacts to the niggles that he had in the previous weeks.” He said as quoted by BBC.
"After we come back we have long weeks to prepare every weekend game. In those two or three weeks we will get the best form."

“Chelsea not in the level of Man City, Liverpool”

Elsewhere, Thomas Tuchel was the first to admit his Chelsea side should not be in the conversation with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Blues were thrashed 4-0 by a resurgent Arsenal in a preseason game in Orlando.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel admitted he was disappointed, but also refused to fully blame his side as he subtly suggested Arsenal were more settled in terms of transfer sagas.

The German manager also refused to be drawn into comparisons with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, who he claims are still miles ahead of Chelsea.
