Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has claimed he would give up his wife Mina Bonino to win the Champions League final.

The Uruguay international will be in action when the Los Blancos cross swords with Liverpool at Stade de France on Saturday evening.

The versatile midfielder is keen to finish an impressive season on a high – and he joked that lifting the 'unique' trophy could require surprising sacrifices.

When asked what he would do to win his first European title, Valverde told AS, quoted by Daily Mail:

'So much. Everything, I think. It's a unique trophy for any player in the world. I'm willing to give so many things. Except my son… maybe my wife.
“No, no – it's a joke. But I'd give a lot – it's not every day you manage to play in a final. Hopefully we can win the title.”

It’s clear that Valverde was joking about his statement, but it only shows how determined and obsessed he is towards winning the Champions League final against Liverpool.

Real Madrid reached the final following a 6-5 aggregate win against Manchester City while Liverpool booked a spot in the final after beating Villarreal.

Carlo Ancelotti's men will hope to finish an impressive season with the Champions League in what would be their 14th elite European title.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are determined to finish the season with a remarkable three trophies should they beat Madrid, having already won the League Cup and the FA Cup.

The Reds finished in second place in the league, one point behind Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

The Reds advanced to the final after beating Spanish side Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals while the 13-time Champions reached the final following a 6-5 aggregate win against Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's men will head into the final seeking revenge after losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in Kyiv four seasons ago.
