Kaizer Chiefs are gracious in defeat and will show Mamelodi Sundowns the respect they deserve.

Coach Stuart Baxter confirmed that his side would provide Sundowns with a guard of honour when the two sides meet if Masandawana are already crowned league champions by then.

Chiefs will host the Brazilians at the FNB Stadium on May 8. Mamelodi Sundowns are two wins away from claiming their fifth consecutive DStv Premiership title, and still have six games in hand.

Kaizer Chiefs have eight games in hand but are still awaiting the Premier Soccer League’s decision on whether it would appeal the arbitration ruling.

As reported by The South African, Baxter admitted that his side had blown their chance to challenge for the title, admitting that they were chasing second place. He also confirmed that they would do the right thing and give Sundowns a guard of honour if they were already champions.

“Sundowns have done a marvellous job this year and I think the rest of us are playing for the follow-up places.
“With that said, if they are the champions when they come to us, we will give them every respect that a professional should afford each other,” he said.

While the team will afford Sundowns respect, fans in the stadium won’t be too happy to see their side so far behind Masandawana. Baxter admitted recently that there were positives and negatives of fans returning to stadiums, SABC Sport reported.

“We have shown them we can progress this year, but we haven’t shown the consistency to prove to the supporters that they can believe that we are going to win the Championship, and that’s what they want to see,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs intensify hunt for new players, agree deal in principle for Chippa United's Bienvenu Eva Nga

Kaizer Chiefs are relentless in their pursuit to sign fresh faces ahead of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The Amakhosi have endured another disappointing campaign this year and are looking to bolster their squad by bringing new players in and letting go of others. As reported by iDiski Times, one of the players identified was Chippa United striker, Bienvenu Eva Nga.

The Cameroonian forward has scored ten goals this season but has been overshadowed by Victor Letsoalo and Pete Shalulile in the race for the Golden Boot. Chippa United owner, Chippa Mpengesi, is understood to have agreed a deal in principle with Kaizer Chiefs for the player’s services.
