Kwara United FC's history

The football club primarily originates from the Kwara Water Corporation Football Club in 1974. The team was initially supposed to be an in-house club for the Water Corporation's settlers. The corporation finally opened the scope due to the extensive results and depth of talents in the football pitch. By 1979, it qualified to play in the National League division alongside Lagos's First Bank Football Club.

In 1985, there was a change in the name of the parent corporation to Kwara Utility Board which consequently resulted in the renaming of the soccer club to Kwara Utility Bombers of Ilorin. I

In 1990, the team suffered financial strains, leading to its relegation to division three in 1996. Colonel Peter Asum Ogar led the state government by then, then purchased the second division and christened the new outfit and a new name, Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin.
