A number of fans thronged the Stade Roumdé Adjia, Garoua, to thank President Muhammadu Buhari, saying their economy depends on Nigeria.
The Super Eagles played their group games in the city of Garoua which is less than 200kilometres from Yola, the capital of Adamawa State in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria.
For emerging group winners, the Super Eagles will remain in the city as they await their Round of 16 opponents at the ongoing competition.
Why thank Buhari?
While going about his duties during Nigeria vs Guinea-Bissau encounter, a Nigerian journalist and popular social media influencer, Pooja, spotted a section of fans raising a banner that captured the photo of the Nigerian president.
An inscription on it reads “please fix Yola-Belel road, Baba Buhari”.
Belel is a town in Nigeria, located near the Nigerian border with Cameroon and lots of economic activities between both countries are visible along that route, which is about 120 kilometres long.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Pooja wrote:
“Yesterday, I saw some groups in the stadium thanking the Buhari government for helping Garoua to grow economically.
“These are the fans inside the Garoua stadium saying their economy depends on Buhari administration.”
