Football2022 Commonwealth Games: Full Team Africa Day 5 Schedule
- While athletics are likely to capture the continent's imagination, African participants are still chasing medals elsewhere in the 2022 Commonwealth Games
- The likes of swimming, boxing, gymnastics and bowls present the realistic prospect of medals
- Thus far, South Africa, Nigeria and Uganda have amassed a total of eight gold medals
While athletics will take centre stage on Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games, Team Africa will be on the hunt for medals elsewhere.
South Africa has been formidable in the water, and gold medallist Tatjana Schoenmaker will seek another way in the swimming pool. Nigeria might have missed out on a final in table tennis, but a bronze medal is up for grabs against England.
Many African nations are represented in all the boxing weight categories, with expectations high for medal placing, there.

2022 Commonwealth Games Athletics: Full Team Africa Day 5 schedule
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will become more exciting with the start of the athletics programme in Birmingham.
As reported by Sports Brief, this is when the African countries participating in the games truly come into their own, particularly on the track, where they traditionally compete for every medal.
The likes of Africa's sprinting champion Ferdinand Omanyala and Akani Simbine are the standout names as the gold rush continues.
