NBAMark Cuban Reveals He Wants Kyrie Irving to Stay With Mavericks
- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has said he wants to re-sign impending free-agent guard Kyrie Irving
- Irving and Luka Doncic haven't built the chemistry yet and may miss the playoffs
- Cuban and the Mavs can offer the guard a five-year $272 million deal
When Kyrie Irving joined the Dallas Mavericks before the Feb 9 trade deadline, expectations were huge. Many felt his partnership with Luka Doncic will see them make a deep playoff run.
The duo have been great on an individual level, but their team has collapsed and may not play in the postseason. Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, wants to resign Irving in the offseason.
Dallas have gone 8-15 since Irving joined the team. They have failed to establish some chemistry and are one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA, sitting 23rd since the All-Star break.
The 31-year-old NBA champion has averaged 27.0 points in 20 NBA games with the Mavericks, coming up clutch in their latest game against the Sacramento Kings by scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter.

The Mavericks lost Jalen Brunson to the New York Knicks last summer; therefore, losing Irving for nothing would be baffling. They gave up Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, and a 2029 first-round pick to Brooklyn, per CBS Sports.
Cuban on resigning Irving
Speaking before Mavs win over the Kings, Cuban said he wants to keep the veteran point guard.
"I'd love to have him stay for sure," Cuban said. "I'd love to have him. I want him to stay for sure, and I think we have a good shot. I think he's happy here. He tells me he's happy here, and I get along great with him. I think he's a good guy. All I can tell you is everything I thought I knew about Kyrie because of everything I read was 100% wrong," via ESPN.
