The Los Angeles Lakers bolstered their playoff hopes with a 113-105 win over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.
Anthony Davis showed he is ready to shoulder the load for the injury-ravaged Lakers with LeBron James still out of the lineup.
He led all scorers for the Lakers, who moved within a half-game of the New Orleans Pelicans for 10th place in the Western Conference standings.
Davis scored 39 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out six assists, and recorded two blocks in 38 minutes of action, per ESPN. He shot 14 of 25 from the field and knocked down 10 of his 13 free throw attempts.

Davis carrying the scoring load
Davis was at his best in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of his 39 points in the final period to help the Lakers stave off a late Warriors uprising.
It is the third time Davis has scored at least 39 points this season. His offensive explosion against the Warriors came two nights after he dropped 38 points in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It is back to the drawing board for the Warriors, who had their five-game winning streak snapped.
Curry loses in return
The good news for Golden State is that Stephen Curry is fit to play again. He recorded 27 points, six assists, and two rebounds in his first game back from a left leg injury.

NBACurry missed 11 games due to that injury but showed no signs of rust in his return. He scored 19 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately for Curry, Davis was hot as well in the payoff period. He scored eight points in the final 4:05 to seal the win for the Lakers. They have now won three of their last four meetings against the Warriors.
Warriors rally past Pelicans
Sports Brief recently reported on the Warriors’ comeback against the Pelicans.
Klay Thompson scored 27 points for the Warriors, who erased a double-digit deficit against New Orleans.
CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram combined for 42 points for the Pelicans, who have lost five of their last six games.
