The two Welterweights traded leg kicks early in the round before Badat connected with a well-placed body kick.

The blow saw the fight open up a bit more as both fighters started looking for more shots.

Badat, a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, proved that he also has power in his hands. The 23-year-old landed a nasty combination of shots which rocked De Sousa and put the Brazilian to sleep.

Badat breaks down in tears

While the South African was composed during the fight, he broke down in tears after the bout, realising that he had won a world title.

Despite the monumental achievement, he showed his class and thanked everyone for believing in him from the time he started training at the age of seven.

Badat calls for peace in Middle East

He also used his time on the mic after the fight to call an end to the violence in the Middle East.

“I put my life on the line voluntarily. Those in the Middle East don’t have a choice. Stop the bombing,” he urged.
