NFF Confirms Super Eagles to Play Top South American Nation in an International Friendly in June

Another top international friendly game has been arranged for the Super Eagles despite the team’s failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed Nigeria will match up against Ecuador in June as the South American nation continues its preparation for the World Cup in Qatar.

According to a report via Complete Sports, the game against Ecuador has been scheduled for June 2 and will be played at the 25,000 capacity Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, USA.

The game comes just five days after the Super Eagles play against CONCACAF heavyweights, Mexico at the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on May 28

Ecuador, who is presently rated 46th in the world by FIFA, advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany which is their first-ever World Cup appearance.

The Super Eagles on the other hand have been to the World Cup on 7 occasions and have qualified to the Round of 16 three times in 1994, 1998, and 2014.

Nigerians slam Super Eagles over Mexico friendly

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has been heavily criticized after the football body announced the international friendly against Mexico.

According to Ghanaweb, Nigerians trolled the NFF with some supporters suggesting the Super Eagles have been turned into training materials for teams going to the World Cup.

Fans are still pained the Super Eagles failed to qualify for a 4th consecutive World Cup following their ouster at the hands of the Black Stars of Ghana.

Super Eagles to face tough opponents in international friendly

Meanwhile, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) chiefs have confirmed that the Super Eagles will face Mexico national team on 28 May in an international friendly match.

The football ruling body in Nigeria disclosed that the friendly encounter between the Super Eagles and Mexico national team will be played at the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas.

Although the NFF chiefs have tendered an apology for the country's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but many Nigerians are still pained that the Super Eagles won't appear in the prestigious tournament.
