Former Senegal player, Habib Beye, has jumped to the defence of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe following his struggles in the UEFA Champions League game against Dortmund.

The France captain was virtually missing as the German outfit strolled to a 1-0 win at the Signal Iduna Park, courtesy of a Niclas Fullkrug first-half goal.

Mbappe will be expected to turn up in the second leg when PSG host Dortmund at the Parc des Princes as the French champions eye their first-ever Champions League title.

Beye, who led French Championnat side Red Star to Ligue 2 promotion, worked as a pundit for the game on Wednesday night for Canal+.

According to the Senegalese legend, Mbappe was not afforded the space he needed, and playing Ousmane Dembele through the middle also affected PSG's offensive tactics.

“He was rather discreet, it’s true. Afterwards, it lacked depth. We know that Mbappé needs space. I think Dortmund played it well," he said, as quoted by 13 Football.
"But he will have to do much better in the return match and then perhaps the positioning of Ousmane Dembélé, in the center, did not allow him to find this depth whereas if he had had Dembélé at right he could have received crosses. He had very few balls to exploit,” he added.

Despite defending his performance, Beye believes Mbappe will have to be at his best if PSG are to reach the final.

“He has to be better in a match like this, but we didn't serve him so that he is the player who makes the difference in this depth,” added Beye.

Mbappe is reportedly could join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, as reported by the BBC.

Ghana defender opens up on Mbappe clash

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian defender, Nathaniel Adjei predicted his fate before the game between French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Lorient in Ligue 1 on April 24, 2024.

The former Ghana U20 star trended at the end of the game after French superstar Kylian Mbappe produced an insane skill to nutmeg the Lorient centre-back.

Mbappe and France teammate Ousmane Dembele each scored twice as the Ligue 1 champions tore apart their hosts 4-1 at Stade du Moustoir.
