Super Eagles to Face Tough Opponents in International Friendly as NFF Discloses Date and Venue

Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) chiefs have confirmed that the Super Eagles will face Mexico national team on 28 May in an international friendly match.

The football ruling body in Nigeria disclosed that the friendly encounter between the Super Eagles and Mexico national team will be played at the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas.

Although the NFF chiefs have tendered an apology for the country's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but many Nigerians are still pained that the Super Eagles won't appear in the prestigious tournament.

How did the Super Eagles of Nigeria lose the 2022 World Cup ticket?

Coach Eguavoen who was in charge of the Super Eagles forced the Black Stars of Ghana to a goalless draw in the first leg of the play-offs, but played 1-1 in the return fixture in Abuja.

Ghana then qualified for the 2022 World Cup thanks to the goal they scored in Abuja through Partey.

When was the last time Mexico and Super Eagles met?

The last time the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Mexico met in an international friendly was on 4 July, 2021 and the three-time African champions suffered 4-0 defeat.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how former France international Laurent Blanc was reported as a candidate for the vacant Nigeria coaching job.

The 1998 World Cup winner and former Manchester United player is in line to replace Augustine Eguaveon who was sacked after failing to qualify Nigeria to the World Cup.

The Nigerian Football Federation will have a technical meeting in the coming days to screen the names that have popped up.

Laurent Blanc has been out of work since leaving Al Rayyan in the United Arab Emirates.

The 56-year-old previously coached Bordeaux, the French national team and Paris Saint Germain.

Nigeria were close to naming Jose Peseiro coach of the Super Eagles before the Nations Cup in Cameroon following the sacking of Gernot Rohr, but the move failed in the eleventh hour.
