The 2023/24 Premier League season has been full of entertainment and drama. Arsenal and Manchester City are still battling for the title with a few games left.

Kevin De Bruyne has been the best playmaker in the Premier League in the last decade. No player has provided more assists (110) than the Belgian since he moved to England. Only Ryan Giggs and Cesc Fabregas have more assists than the Manchester City star in Premier League history.

De Bruyne has struggled for rhythm and consistency this season, mainly due to injuries. That has opened the door for other players to showcase their playmaking abilities.

Astro Villa's Ollie Watkins leads the assist charts with 12. He is closely followed by Pascal Gross (10), Kieran Trippier (10), and eight players who have nine.

The Aston Villa striker has also scored 19 league goals. He is the frontrunner for the Playmaker award if he plays the remaining matches.

Africans with the most assists

Mohamed Salah - 9 assists

Salah continues to set the standard for African players in the Premier League since he moved to England in 2017. No African player has scored more goals or provided more assists than the Egyptian star.

The 31-year-old won the 2021/22 Playmaker award and is four behind this season's top contender, Watkins. The Liverpool winger has struggled in 2024. He has provided two assists this year and none in the last eight games.

Jordan Ayew - 7 assists

The Crystal Palace and Ghana forward has assisted seven times in the Premier League. The veteran forward is playing in his ninth season in the English top flight. This season, he registered his highest assist tally. The highest he's ever recorded before this season was three.

Mohammed Kudus - 5 assists

The Ghanaian has taken the Premier League by storm since his big-money transfer from Ajax. The Black Stars superstar has scored seven goals and provided five assists in the league this campaign.

In his first season, that is a decent return. The West Ham star is still 23, meaning he is nowhere near his peak. Only Jarrod Bowen has scored more goals (20) than him. James Ward-Prowse (11) has the most assists this term.

Cameroon star, Bryan Mbeumo, has also assisted five times in the Premier League at Brentford. The forward missed nearly four months of action due to injury. He has eight goals and five assists in 22 games.

Nicolas Jackson - 4 assists

The Senegal striker has been heavily criticised this season. The Chelsea man is playing his first season in England, and despite his struggles in front of goal, his numbers are decent.

The 22-year-old has registered 11 goals and four assists in the league this season. He is only 22, meaning there's plenty of room for improvement.

Taiwo Awoniyi - 3 assists

The Nigerian has struggled with injuries this season at Nottingham Forest. He missed the 2023 AFCON with the Super Eagles and last played a Premier League match in early March. Awoniyi has played 17 league matches and registered six goals and three assists.

Awoniyi has been missed by Forest, who are fighting for survival in the Premier League.

Egypt legend criticises Salah

Sports Brief earlier reported on Egypt legend, Mohamed Aboutrika, calling out Salah over his heated confrontation with his manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The two-time AFCON winner was not pleased with how his compatriot behaved publicly, reiterating that he should've shown respect to his coach.
