Nigeria Football Federation Appoints New Coaches for Youth Teams, Promises Super Eagles Coach to Be Named Soon

  • Salisu Yusuf has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles B, otherwise known as the CHAN team, as well as the U-23 Olympics team
  • The Nigeria Football Federation's Executive Committee endorsed the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Salisu Yusuf
  • The NFF also indicated that once the Super Eagles' engagement and contract-signing processes are completed, a new Head Coach will be revealed and officially unveiled

Salisu Yusuf has been appointed to lead the Super Eagles B-team for a second time after his appointment was ratified by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF announced a massive shake-up in the national teams across all age grade categories as the football body planned to rebuild all teams for success following a disappointing 2022 that saw the Super Eagles fail to qualify for the World Cup.

According to a report via The Sun, the technical committee of the NFF had earlier recommended Salisu Yusuf for the position of head coach of the U-23 national team as well as the CHAN team.

Yusuf had overseen the B-team when he guided them to a silver medal at the African Nations Championship in Morocco in 2018.

The former Rangers coach will be assisted by Kennedy Boboye, Fatai Osho, Abubakar Bala Mohammed, and Fidelis Ikechukwu as assistant coaches.

The NFF also retained Ladan Bosso in his position as Head Coach of the Flying Eagles, while Nduka Ugbade was named head coach of the Golden Eaglets.

NFF to name Super Eagles coach soon

The Nigerian football federation has also promised to announce a new manager for the Super Eagles following the sacking of Augustine Eguavoen and his technical staff.

The Daily Post had reported Laurent Blanc, Phillip Cocu, and Victor Valverde are three candidates the NFF are considering taking over the vacant Super Eagles managerial role.

The new Super Eagles coach will be announced and officially unveiled once his engagement and contract-signing processes are concluded with the football body.

1998 World Cup winner pops up as candidate for vacant Nigeria coaching job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported former France international Laurent Blanc has been reported as a candidate for the vacant Nigeria coaching job.

The 1998 World Cup winner and former Manchester United player is in line to replace Augustine Eguaveon who was sacked after failing to qualify Nigeria to the World Cup.

The Nigerian Football Federation will have a technical meeting in the coming days to screen the names that have popped up.
