  • Nwakali is said not to be in good term with SD Huesca coach Munoz which forced the club to terminate his contract

People in charge of Spanish club SD Huesca have terminated the contract of Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali in what will come as heartbreaking development for the player.

Kelechi Nwakali's contract with SD Huesca was initially expected to expire at the end of ongoing season in Europe before the Spanish second division side made the decision on Tuesday, 5 March.

The club made the announcement with the photo of the Nigerian player posted on their official Twitter account.

He had been on a collision course with the team’s coach Xisco Munoz ever since and was also reported to have rejected an opportunity to move to Burgos.

Nwakali has also had several disciplinary issues with the team and had a frosty relationship with the coaches.

When did Kelechi Nwakali join SD Huesca?

The Nigerian midfielder joined SD Huesca in 2019 and has so far featured in 16 games without netting any goal before he was asked to leave.

Nwakali was also amongst the Super Eagles players who played for Nigeria at the 2021 African Cup of Nations held in Cameroon.

Eguavoen sends solid message to Nigerians after missing 2022 World Cup ticket with Super Eagles

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Augustine Eguavoen stated emphatically that he is not a failure despite failing to qualify the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup losing the play-offs to Ghana.

Last year December, Gernot Rohr was sacked as the Super Eagles coach by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and Augustine Eguavoen was appointed on interim capacity.

His first assignment was steering the Super Eagles to Cameroon for the 2021 African Cup of Nations where they crashed out in the round of 16 losing against Tunisia.

Eguavoen was still given the task to qualify Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but the Black Stars of Ghana picked the ticket thanks to the away goal rule which helped them.
