  • Trying to get to tonight's UEFA Europa League final has proved something of a tricky mission for a group of separate Rangers FC supporters
  • Six of them were kicked off a plane bound for Seville where the final against Eintracht Frankfurt will take place
  • Another took a unique route to try to find accommodation in the coastal city, which involved the ingenious use of a dating app

Getting to the Europa League final between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers in Seville or finding accommodation has proven to be an interesting experience for a group of separate 'The Gers' fans.

In the first instance, six of them were thrown off a Seville-bound Ryanair plane. They are believed to have behaved rowdily as the aircraft was headed to the south of Europe.

According to The Scottish Sun, they were mid-flight from Manchester to Faro in Portugal when things apparently kicked off. The plane had to be diverted to Nantes in France, where they were removed - after it had landed - in handcuffs by police.

They were released not long after being taken into custody, with SPORTbible reporting that no charges were laid against them.

An eyewitness said:

“It was absolutely appalling behaviour from the moment they started getting smashed in the airport ahead of the flight. It was completely sickening to witness – people so drunk and stupid on a packed airplane at 35,000 feet.
"They just ignored everything they were told. The flight attendants did their best, but they would not listen at all.”

Social media footage appears to show one particular fan who seems to be absolutely distraught that he'll miss seeing his team play in their first European final since 2008, and was filmed standing on the tarmac with his hands on his head.

Elsewhere, another fan didn't have travel problems, but instead did not have a place to sleep. Known only as Connor, he set up a Tinder profile looking for potential matches to let him crash for his duration in Seville, as reported by SPORTbible.

A message on his profile translated from Spanish read:

"I’m desperately searching for a place to stay. I am desperately looking for a place to stay. Hotels cost more than 600 euros so if you have a free bed or a sofa I can sleep on, it would be a big help. I’d be prepared to pay for this service. Thank you. Come on Rangers!"

It was not known if he was successful in his endeavour, but a tweet on his profile was liked more than 35 000 times.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers FC chase glory and Champions League football in UEFA Europa League final

The 2021-22 edition of the UEFA Europa League campaign will reach its crescendo tonight when Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers FC collide at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium in Seville.

The German side, designated as the final's "home" team, accounted for West Ham in the semifinals, while the Scottish giants dealt with Red Bull Leipzig in the other tie.

This is the first time a team from Scotland has been in the competition's final since 'The Gers' rivals Glasgow Celtic in 2003, where they lost 3-2 to Jose Mourinho's FC Porto.
