  • Samuel Eto’o congratulated Real Madrid on a fine performance that knocked out Manchester City
  • The retired former Barcelona striker was impressed by Real’s showing as the Spanish side staged a remarkable comeback at the last minute on Wednesday
  • Eto’o is one of the few football stars to have played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona

Cameroonian Football Federation President Samuel Eto’o recently showed his class by sharing a message to Real Madrid following a stunning comeback win over Manchester City in the Champions League.

Los Blancos were on the verge of elimination when substitute Rodrygo scored a brace late on to force the game into extra time.

A penalty from Karim Benzema then gave Real Madrid the advantage as Manchester City succumbed to yet another painful exit from Europe’s elite competition.

Taking to social media hours after the game, Eto’o, who has strong affiliations to Barcelona, joined the tens of football legends in hailing Real Madrid.

“Bravo Real Madrid the club where it all started for me, on their impressive victory last night,” Eto’o wrote on Facebook, much to the delight of his fans.

It is also kind to note that despite a successful spell at Barcelona, where he won the Champions League, Eto’o was actually a Real Madrid player at the start of his career in Europe.

He spent three years at Madrid from 1997 to 2000, but only managed to make three appearances, before eventually securing a move to Mallorca, a club he played for on loan before hand.

Eto’o is one of the few top football stars who have played or both Real Madrid and Barcelona but still manage to get love from both sets of fans.

Rare call for Guardiola to be sacked

In the wake of the crushing defeat to Real Madrid, there have been strange calls for Pep Guardiola to be sacked by sections of Manchester City fans.

Since Pep Guardiola was appointed as the coach of Manchester City, the Spaniard has been struggling to win the Champions League title.

He lost out to Monaco in the 16/17 season in the round of 16, before getting eliminated by Liverpool the following season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side knocked them out in the 18/19 season, while in the 19/20 season, it was Lyon who caused the upset in the quarter final stage.

City would finish the competition as runners up to Chelsea in the 20/21 season.
