Lionel Messi was given a well-deserved guard of honour by his Paris Saint-Germain teammates and staff.

The 35-year-old reported back to Paris having concluded his celebrations, after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

Messi was granted an extended leave for his heroics and spent the yuletide period in his native Rosario with his family and friends.

Messi's return to training prompted a hero's welcome from his teammates and support staff, after he captained Argentina to World Cup glory.

In a video shared on social media, seen by Sports Brief, the former Barcelona talisman gallantly walked between the guard made by his PSG mates like the champion he is.

He was also presented with a special trophy at the felicitation ceremony, India Today notes.

Meanwhile, Messi could take to the pitch for the reigning French champions as soon as January 11, with Thursday's Coupe de France tie against Chateauroux considered too early owing to his likely lack of match fitness.

Messi arrives in Paris

Messi returned to Paris as he ended his vacation, on the back of Argentina's World Cup triumph, Sports Brief reported.

The World Cup Golden Ball winner was given extended leave after playing a major role in La Albiceleste dethroned France as world champions.

Messi arrived at PSG's training facility on Wednesday morning as he gears up for club football, the Parisians announced via social media.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Messi received a warm reception from his Paris Saint-Germain teammates, upon his arrival back after his extended vacation.

The 35-year-old playmaker made a return to Paris after conquering the world with his beloved Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On his arrival, the former Barcelona talisman was given a kingly welcome by his PSG teammates, which included bosom friend Neymar.
