The revered wordsmith was on hand to wax lyrical about one of the greatest football matches - possibly the best World Cup final - ever witnessed for those fortunate enough to have watched from home.

With the post-match awards ceremony unfolding, Drury said of Golden Boot winner and hat-trick scorer Kylian Mbappe:

"After Ronaldo and Klose and Mueller and James Rodrigues and Harry Kane... Kylian Mbappe! This was to be the final of Messi or Mbapp - it turns out to be the final of them both. British commentator Drury had the perfect words to describe Messi's 2022 World Cup triumph with Argentina.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner led the South Americans to their first World Cup success in 36 years, after netting a brace in the final against France, despite Kylian Mbappe forcing the game to penalties with a sensational hat-trick.

Messi had the last laugh however, as goalkeeper Emi Martinez produced a heroic performance in the shootout to help his side to victory.
