British commentator Peter Drury had the perfect words to describe Lionel Messi's World Cup triumph with Argentina.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner led the South Americans to their first Mundial success in 36 years, after netting a brace in the final against France.

Although his Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Kylian Mbappe forced the game to penalties with a sensational hat-trick, it was not to be for Les Bleus.

"Montiel... Argentina, champions of the world. Again. At last. And the nation will tango all night long. 36 years ago since Maradona and Mexico, here finally is a nation's new throng of immortals. Scaloni will be fated, Messi will be sainted," Drury commented.

His commentary also included the line: 'France this time denied, defied'.

"The little boy from Rosario, Santa Fe, has just pitched up in heaven. He climbs into a galaxy of his own. He has his crowning moment and of course he is not alone."

Drury has stolen many moments with his poetic commentaries at the World Cup and on the grandest occasion, perfectly weaved words for the man now considered the greatest of all-time.

Peter Drury hails Okocha

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that football commentator Drury was lost for words as he described Nigerian legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.

The English commentary legend was in awe of the former Super Eagles captain's talent, revealing a famous comment about the player as his favourite.

Drury has disclosed that the line 'he was so good they named him twice' is top of his descriptions of Okocha.

Messi wins World Cup

Messi won the World Cup to cap off a glittering international career, by claiming the only trophy that has eluded him.

The Argentina star led his country in reportedly his final international game, as the South Americans dethroned France to become world champions for the third time.

Messi scored a brace in a thrilling encounter that travelled 120 minutes and had to be settled on penalties, Sports Brief has reported.
