  • He followed it up with another freekick against Nice to take his tally for the season to five goals

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi scored a wonderful freekick for the second game running on Saturday night.

Messi was in action against Nice in a French Ligue 1 match when he curled in the set-piece just outside the penalty area.

The Argentinian started alongside Neymar and PSG's new signing Hugo Etikike in attack as Kylian Mbappe was handed a rest by head coach Christophe Galtier.

Nice appeared to contain the game in the early stages, but PSG's dominance and experience started weighing heavily on them.

In the 27th minute, Messi launched an attack towards the Nice goal area but was hauled down by veteran Brazilian defender Dante. Dante was booked as Messi placed the ball on the turf, plotting his next move.

Neymar dummied the Nice wall before Messi cooly slotted the ball past Kasper Schmeichel, who remained rooted in the Nice goal.

It was Messi's second freekick goal this week after scoring a similarly impressive one against Jamaica in an international friendly.

The freekick goal was Messi's fifth in Ligue 1 this season. The 35-year-old appears more settled after a rather tumultuous debut season in Paris.

The game ended 2-1, with Kylian Mbappe coming from the bench to guarantee maximum points for PSG.

Daring fan record himself while on his way to meet Lionel Messi

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Lionel Messi was on the receiving end of 'overflowing love' from a few fans during this international break.

Argentina were stationed in the United States of America, where they played against Honduras and Jamaica in their final games before the World Cup.

Messi was mobbed at least three times by pitch invaders who wanted autographs or pictures with the Paris Saint-Germain star.
