Lionel Messi and setting records have become a consistent feature in the glittering career of the Paris Saint-Germain superstar.

Messi got his name on the scoresheet - his first in the Champions League this season - in PSG's second group game against Israeli side Maccabi Haifa.

The Argentina captain also becomes the first player to find the net against 39 different teams in UEFA Champions League, more than any other player in the competition - bypassing longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo - who has scored against 38 different teams.

Messi, who is a four-time winner of the Champions League, will also set his sights on the all-time top scorer record which is currently held by Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo (141).

Maccabi Haifa players make an unusual plea to Leo Messi and Neymar

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that players of Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa have made an unusual request from Paris Saint-Germain duo Lionel Messi and Neymar following the UEFA Champions League draw.

Maccabi Haifa punched their ticket to the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2009, beating Red Star Belgrade 5-4 over two legs on Tuesday night.

On the back of their qualification, the Israeli top-flight club have been drawn in Group H along with two-time winners Juventus, Portuguese giants Benfica and favourites Paris Saint-Germain.
