It is believed that it might have been due to an unannounced bout of loadshedding. However, it turns out that it was a simple power outage at the venue.

The match had been deadlocked at 0-0 at the time of the incident. After a 12-minute wait, the electricity at the stadium started coming back on.

Kaizer Chiefs charged for Stellenbosch FC field invasion, PSL accused of double standards

Kaizer Chiefs is in a spot of bother.

The club will appear before a Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee to explain the behaviour of fans who invaded the pitch during the MTN 8 quarterfinal match against Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium last Sunday.

According to IOL, the league's prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed this via a statement to the media. The PSL somehow won't have to answer for the chaos seeing that it was in charge of security on the day of the match.

The article also opined:

"The PSL also does not allow fans to run onto the pitch after matches, but last week the security stood by as fans streamed onto the playing area. Some of the fencing around the playing area were hopelessly inadequate and fans had little trouble breaching it."
