Sekhukhune United got off to the perfect start when they took the lead in the second minute of the game.

Rodrick Kabwe had a shot from just outside the box which should have been a routine save for Marcel Engelhardt.

The Maritzburg United keeper somehow botched the save and watched the ball slip through his hands and legs and find its way into the back of the net. The miss will undoubtedly go down as one of the worst mistakes by a keeper this season, if not the worse.

Maritzburg United fought back following the poor start and Tawanda Macheke and Keegan Ritchie both drew good saves out of Toaster Nsabata. Maritzburg looked like the better team for much of the first half and were eventually rewarded for their pressure. Keegan Ritchie produced a moment of magic to draw Maritzburg United level in the 42nd minute.

Ritchie ran onto a pass and sliced it on the half volley, watching it skid into the bottom right corner of the net. With the teams level at the break, Sekhukhune United brought on former Orlando Pirates player, Justin Shonga in the second half.

Shonga showed that he still was a talented player as he had two shots on target after coming on, forcing Engelhardt into some good saves. Engelhardt redeemed himself in the second half with his save, as he kept Sekhukhune United out on numerous occasions.

Veteran Willard Katsande also forced a save out of Engelhardt late in the game. Maritzburg United had the best chance of the game to steal the points late on as his freekick was deflected just wide by the wall.

Both teams had to settle for the draw, a result that suited the visitors more. Sekhukhune United did jump up to eighth place thanks to the point but they have only won one game in the last ten that they’ve played.

DStv Premiership: Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United battle for a top 4 finish, headline a trio of games

Local football lovers are in for a treat today as three DStv Premiership games take centre stage. Marumo Gallants take on Chippa United in the first game of the day, with Sekhukhune United hosting Maritzburg United in the second. Orlando Pirates will host SuperSport United in the pick of today's Premier Soccer League games, with a spot in the top four up for grabs.

Sekhukhune United are level on points with Marumo Gallants on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table and could also jump up the table with a big win. Sekhukhune United come into the game on the back of a defeat to Cape Town City.

Their opponents, Maritzburg United, will be still buzzing after beating Mamelodi Sundowns in their last game, Sowetan LIVE reported. The KwaZulu-Natal side are four points above the relegation zone and will be looking to put some more points between them and the chasing pack.
