  • Mason Greenwood's hopes of playing for the England national team have reportedly been wiped out
  • The striker is yet to resume his professional football career with Manchester United yet to provide a way forward
  • The Jamaican football federation has tried to approach the 21-year-old

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has reportedly turned down an opportunity to play for another national team despite his future in England being in dire jeopardy.

Greenwood is still waiting on Manchester United to make a decision on his future after his charges were dropped last month.

The 21-year-old was suspended last year after he was accused of coercive behaviour and sexual assault that saw him arrested and arraigned in court.

The Sun reports that England's national team boss Gareth Southgate has ruled out the possibility of ever calling up Greenwood for national duty again. Southgate intends not to use the forward as long as he is the national team manager. His contract runs until Euro 2024.

However, the good news for the young striker is that he can change national teams, given that he was only capped once by the Three Lions. He is eligible to play for the Jamaican national team, but as Goal reports, he has already passed on that opportunity. The Jamaican Football Federation has seen their attempts to lure Greenwood rebuffed.

Greenwood's possible loan options

Sports Brief had reported that Greenwood's return to professional football remains shrouded in uncertainty, with Manchester United yet to provide a way forward.

After his charges were dropped, Manchester United indicated that they would conduct their own internal investigations before coming up with a solution. The Greenwood subject is proving to be a very delicate subject to handle, with reported concerns among both the men's and women's squads.

The problem for the Red Devils is that the 21-year-old is still contracted by the club until 2025. He is on a weekly wage of 75,000 euros. Manchester United recently received loan offers from Turkey for the striker.

Greenwood meets United bosses

At the same time, Greenwood reportedly held the first meeting with Manchester United bosses.

This is the first meeting the striker has had since his sexual assault charges were dropped at the start of the month. The dropping of his charges by the Crown Prosecution Services paved the way for a potential return to professional football.
