In a subsequent press conference, Benfica midfielder Joao Mario appeared before media where he clarified there was no tension between Ronaldo and Bruno, and it was all banter between the pair.

"I saw pictures. It was a joke between them. Bruno Fernandes was one of the last to arrive. Cristiano asked: 'Did you come by boat?'” Joao Mario said as quoted on Manchester Evening news.

Bruno Fernandes seemed to back Joao Mario’s version of events, as he took to Instagram with a photo of the Benfica man along with the caption:

"Oh Joao Mario, there you are ruining the covers of the newspapers".
