Rio Ferdinand has accused Cristiano Ronaldo of manufacturing the big interview with Piers Morgan to force an exit from Manchester United after failing to secure a move this past summer.

Ronaldo raised several hot topics in the interview, pointing the finger at Man United ownership under the Glazers, saying nothing has changed since he left the club more than 10 years ago.

Ronaldo returned to the club last year from Juventus in a £12.9 million deal and signed a two-year deal which ends when the current Premier League season ends, according to Sky Sports.

When the 20-time Premier League champions signed him, there was plenty of fanfare which quickly deteriorated after results started going bad. Some feel he cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job as manager, according to the BBC.

Ferdinand blast Ronaldo

Legendary United defender and Ronaldo's former teammate Rio Ferdinand said the Portugal star had only one goal for the interview, according to the Sun.

“You can’t sit here and defend that from Cristiano Ronaldo. Deep down, and I know it for a fact, this has all been manufactured for one thing - and that’s for him to leave the club."

Ferdinand said there is no way back for Ronaldo after the revelations he made in the interview.

“The book has been closed. He’s snookered the club and put them into a position where there’s no way back."

In his first spell with the club between 2003 to 2009, Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games. In that time, he won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was the club's top scorer last season with 24 goals, according to Transfermarkt.

Ronaldo quotes supported by Mourinho, Alexis

Sports Brief earlier reported on Ronaldo's comments being supported by remarks from Jose Mourinho, Alexis Sanchez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic about the club.

The three who worked with the club at some point in the last few years have in the past made poignant remarks about the club.

Many United fans believe that Ronaldo was spot on in relation to the club's state..
