Cristiano Ronaldo: When Erik Ten Hag Punished Ajax Amsterdam Player Amin Younes for Refusing to Play
- Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has firmly stamped his authority at the club
- He dropped Cristiano Ronaldo from the match against Chelsea after his childish antics at the end of the match against Tottenham Hotspur
- This brought back memories of how he also mercilessly dealt with a player who tested him at Ajax Amsterdam
Erik Ten Hag has always had a ruthless streak whenever circumstances necessitated it.
The Manchester United boss displayed it in the manner in which he dropped Cristiano Ronaldo for the match against Chelsea after he stormed off towards the end of the match against Tottenham Hotspur.
This brought back memories of his time at Ajax Amsterdam, when he had to make an example of a player who refused to listen to his instructions. SportBible reported that in the 2017/2018 Eredivisie season, Amin Younes refused to come on during Ajax's 4-1 victory against Heerenveen.

Following this show of insubordination, Ten Hag exiled Younes from the senior team to Jong Ajax, the club's second team.
According to Football Oranje, Ten Hag said:
“We still have six games to play and I only want players who are 100% motivated. A lot has happened with and around Amin during this season, that will undoubtedly play a role.
"But he does not give us the feeling that his attention is completely with Ajax. Marc and I informed him today that he is training for the remaining weeks of this season with Jong Ajax.”
Younes was then rail-roaded out of the club to Napoli at the end of that season.
